Gender Mainstreaming Awards 2017 winners

Coface South Africa, the international credit insurer, was the overall winner of the Non-JSE listed companies award in the category Equal Representation and Participation of Women in the Workplace at the 2017 Gender Mainstreaming Awards.

Coface was also recognised as finalists in three other categories, second in Women on Boards, third in Women on Executive Committees in Multinationals and third in Women Empowerment in the Workplace.

“Coface was up against some strong competition in these categories, competing against the likes of Ernst & Young, Mineworkers Investment Company, Thomson Reuters and Cummins Africa,” said Jacqui Jooste, Coface South Africa CEO.

“Coface has implemented a number of initiatives to drive equal representation and participation of women across all levels of our organisation. The company’s robust intern programmes as well as the focus on board transformation are two programmes that have had a tangible impact on the organisation already. Women employees now make up more than half of Coface South Africa’s workforce, half the local Executive Committee and just under half of the local board,” she said.

The awards recognise organisations that have developed strategies or have already implemented measures for the progressive realisation of a greater representation and meaningful participation of women in decision-making structures.

These include setting targets for such representation and participation; building women’s capacity to participate; enhancing the understanding and attitudes of men to recognise the capabilities and participation of women as their equals; and developing support mechanisms for women.

“The appointment of Jacqui Jooste as the first woman CEO of a credit insurance company in South Africa has been an important milestone for the local organisation and Coface South Africa remains fully committed to prioritising its gender mainstreaming programmes going forward,” said Gino Conte, Chairman of Coface South Africa
