Business can’t operate ‘in environment of violence’

Chamber of Mines of SA (CoM) CE Bheki Sibiya said on Monday that organised business cannot operate in an environment of violence and xenophobia.

Speaking at a stakeholder forum hosted by the ANC, Sibiya said business had spread throughout the African continent and SA was also gaining in terms of investment from the continent. He stated that the interests of business were being harmed by the attacks on foreign nationals, which would also negatively affect job creation, and that the CoM was prepared to support the ANC and government to stop xenophobia and deal with the underlying causes of the incidents.

ANC chairwoman Baleka Mbete said the party’s responsibility was "to find out who is involved and how long they have been planning the violence". She asserted that only a selected few were involved on the violence.
