30th Annual Labour Law Conference

Download as iCal file
From Wednesday 02 August 2017 -  08:00
To Thursday 03 August 2017 - 17:00

The Annual Labour Law Conference (ALLC 2017) is now in its 30th year, and is a firm fixture on the annual labour law calendar. The conference started in Natal in the late 1980s, after the Wiehahn Commission of Enquiry, when trade unions and the labour movement were acknowledged as a strategic force in the move towards a democratic South Africa.

The early conferences were held at the University of Natal, and were organised by the three partner universities: Natal (UKZN), Cape Town (the Institute for Development and Labour Law) and the University of the Witwatersrand (Centre for Applied Legal Studies). The conference moved to the Convention Centre in Durban and later to the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. In 2016, the ALLC moved to a new venue in Johannesburg and, like in 2016, the Conference Company will facilitate the organisation with the partner universities.

The ALLC is attended by labour law and human resource professionals, trade unionists and members from the public service, and the event sometimes attracts in excess of 800 delegates. The themes of the conference continue to reflect a labour law in transition, and the speakers are prominent labour law and economic experts.
