Employee wellness isn't a nice-to-have; it's a must-have for companies looking to attract and retain top talent. Many organisations have recognised the importance of this investment and creating an environment that employees want to be in. Our philosophy of staff retention is to give people many reasons to enjoy coming to work. The working environment needs to be more than just a place where you carry out your tasks. It must be an environment you fundamentally care about, in addition to the role you play in it.


Post-traumatic stress disorder in the workplace

People suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often relate to the Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme as it expresses just how they're feeling: shattered, wounded, torn apart and unlikely ever to be put back together again. PTSD results from exposure to an overwhelmingly stressful event or series of events, and can be caused by a wide range of trials such as: war, abuse, violent crime or natural disasters. To understand PTSD and how you can help one of your employees who might be suffering from the disease, you must first understand 'trauma'.


Employee wellness is a bottom line business issue

Employee wellness should be one of employers' top priorities. However, evidence across many industries reflects a dire situation which suggests employers don't have their employees' wellness at the top of their minds. While medical scheme contributions continue to exceed inflation rates, and employee salary increases are also below this threshold, there's no denying that circumstances such as these become unsustainable with negative implications on business practices. So what's the solution?


What are the strengths and weaknesses of your employee wellness programme?

One of the biggest oversights found in many organisations is that these generally don't factor their human capital risks into the running of their businesses nor integrate these risks into the overall risks of the companies. Even worse, the talent found within the organisation's human capital is rarely understood and the elements associated with the company's human capital and talent is often seen as an 'intangible asset'. The elements aren't factored as a value item on the balance sheet.
